Formal Proposal
- The topic of this documentary is male grooming.
- The style is mixed. It will be aired on BBC3 at 8.30pm as it fits with BBC3’s young target audience. The topic of this documentary would more likely appeal to males between the ages of 16 and 25.
- We conducted a questionnaire as our primary research to find out more about our target audience.
- For secondary research, we searched cosmetics websites (such as Boots.com and Clarins.com) and websites exclusively for male grooming products (such as Mankind.com)
- We also looked on the Men’s Health magazine website and a YouTube clip hosted by beauty expert Ahmed Zambarakji to find male grooming tips.
- Another part of our secondary research was collecting images of male celebrities that both do no grooming and a lot of grooming. In terms of narrative structure, we are going to open the documentary with vox pops and several interviews with varied people (Someone who does no grooming, someone who does grooming, a male hairdresser, and grandparents.)
- The documentary will show both different side of the spectrum, a history of male grooming and what social groups do it.
- The resources we require are a video camera, a tripod, a still digital camera and Adobe Premier Pro editing programme.
